The Newest Adventure

Growing up, I discovered from a very young age that I loved being in or near some type of water. I loved the beach, but also the pool and at one point, after a trip to the amazing, local aquarium, I considered a career in marine biology. Because of this interest in marine science, and my intense desire to travel, I absolutely could not pass up an opportunity to do coral reef research in Honduras. I’d always wanted to learn to scuba dive. I never believed I would get the chance to become scuba certified, much less on a tropical island in the Caribbean, diving among barracuda, dolphins, sea turtles, squid, and so many species of fish, all coexisting with one another. Scientists, students and volunteers research and address conservation concerns to improve the health of Caribbean coral reefs throughout the region. The study and preservation of the coral reefs are important to the economy because they bring in billions of dollars through tourism. They also provide a home for millions of amazing aquatic species, protect coastal homes from storms and may even offer some promising medical treatments.

Through some group and individual fundraising efforts, and the generosity of family and friends, I was able to raise the money for the single greatest adventure of my lifetime. My expectations were already high, but I had no idea I would be learning so much, as well as meeting and bonding with brand new friends. We went as a group of 15, ready to work. The two weeks I spent in Honduras were the best, most challenging, most eye-opening weeks of my life. It was the craziest thing, getting up early every morning to scuba dive and explore the ocean. We also spent days exploring the town on days off from diving. There were plenty of animals, marine and non-marine, to keep me happy.

But there’s more to Honduras than just the two islands. There’s SO much to see, and the flight from New York was just a few hours. Honduras has San Pedro Sula and Utila and Roatan and SO MUCH MORE! I need to go back asap, but here’s some photos of my trip which was spent mostly in Utila and Roatan!

How To… Get Flawless Skin

Processed with VSCO with c1 presetHi guys! It’s been a while (2 weeks to be exact). I apologize for no post last week, I’ve been a counselor at a local theatre camp! While working with kids is such a joy, it’s also extremely tiring, and last week I was super burnt out. In any case, I am back with a brand new post for you! Today I’m talking all about gorgeous skin and how it isn’t as hard to have as you might think. It’s a common misconception that expensive skincare products equal better quality, but this is absolutely NOT true! All of the products I mention are under $10 and completely cruelty free. To hear how I keep my skin clear and glowing without breaking the bank or harming any animals, read on!

1. Alba Botanica Good & Clean is my new favorite face wash. It has a formula designed specifically for sensitive skin, so if you have sensitive skin like me, I would highly recommend using this stuff. It also smells like fruit which is an added bonus! Of course, it’s made from 100% vegetarian ingredients. Alba Botanica prides itself on being a cruelty free company, so no bunnies were harmed! 🙂

2. Stridex. I use this to tone my face after I wash it. In three words: this. works. fast. Overnight, I already saw improvement in my skin, in that it seemed to dry up my pimples instantly. Hey, they don’t call this stuff “maximum strength” for nothing. My mom used Stridex as a teenager as well, so it’s been around a while and is reputable and reliable.

3. Once every few weeks, I use a mask to give my skin the TLC it needs. My favorite masks to use at the moment are the ones from the brand Tonymoly. My personal faves are the Lemon, Red Wine, Pomegranate, and Aloe masks.

4. Diet. As a vegan, I eat loads of plant based foods like fruits, veggies, and nuts. Eating healthy and drinking LOTS of water (8 glasses a day AT LEAST!) are monumental in developing clear skin naturally.

5. Sleep. So underrated but SO important. I try to get at least 8 hours a night, but that goal gets harder in the school year when you’re up until midnight finishing homework and you have to get up at 6:00 A.M.

Hope you guys are enjoying summer so far! What are your skincare secrets? Lmk in the comments.
